Château Margaux, patron of the Department of Byzantine and Eastern Christian Arts at the Louvre Museum

For many years, Château Margaux has consistently supported the Louvre’s projects related to the treasures of ancient Greece, the ancestral home of the Mentzelopoulos family, owners of the estate. We are now delighted to support the creation of the Department of Byzantine and Eastern Christian Art.

Officially announced in 2022, this ninth department of the Louvre will open in 2028 in the heart of the Denon wing, occupying over 2,200 square meters. With more than 20,000 works already housed there, ranging from the 3rd century to the Treaty of Lausanne in 1923, it will offer a coherent space, directly connected to the museum’s other departments. Thanks to its fluid and open design, visitors will have all the historical insights this space provides, allowing them to better understand the points of contact between different civilizations, their richness and exchanges, particularly with the Greek and Roman worlds.

This patronage is part of our commitment to preserve and transmit essential heritage, the knowledge of which illuminates history and fosters dialogue between cultures.
