In our plots, the first flowers have appeared, marking a new phase in the vine’s growth cycle.
Flowering is a crucial moment for our teams: it provides the first indications of the harvest calendar and the potential quality of the vintage.
In viticulture, mid-flowering—the point when approximately 50% of the flowers are open—serves as a benchmark for estimating the harvest date. From this point on, it takes an average of 95 days before harvesting Sauvignon Blanc, and approximately 120 days for Merlot. This is the first temporal milestone of the season, invaluable for organizing the rest of the work in the vineyard.
But flowering is more than just a simple date. It provides essential clues about the health of the vineyard. Our vineyard manager closely observes the speed with which the flowers open, their uniformity from one row to the next, and their sensitivity to weather conditions. All of these elements already provide a glimpse of the potential of the upcoming harvest.
